Thankful for the Lone Star State-Texas
I hit the double-nickel in years of age, and I am counting my blessings. Texas is the source of so many blessings that I will think about it for days. Reenactors’ photographs were posted in the Houston Chronicle from the reenactment of the Battle of San Jacinto, at the San Jacinto Battleground, Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Houston, causing me to think about how my spouses’ family history which is six generations in Texas, and is intertwined with the pioneer history of Texas and America. The fight for independence is a struggle every human being experiences. The right to make one’s own destiny. Every American is raised thinking that way no matter their background. Immigrants make the journey to America to discover it. The desire for Independence is surely universal. In the American system of government we often think of our own state as its own country, just ask any Texan if Texas is a country, and you will get or give a long sermon on Texas history. A Texan may have ideas that are different from a Californian, Louisianian, Georgian, Virginian, Floridian, New Yorker, Michigander, or a Missourian, and so on, but in the end we are Americans. Texas is a big state and a big country, plays a major role in American history and will to continue to be a major force in the future of the United States. God Bless Texas!
